Mission Statement:

Our mission at the Adam Johnson Volleyball Club is to prepare our athletes with the most comprehensive mental, physical and fundamental training techniques that will help ensure their success on the volleyball court and in life. Passing on our knowledge and experience from all levels of volleyball to our players is a vital part of the Adam Johnson Volleyball Club.

Letter from the Director:

From the day I started playing volleyball, over 30 years ago, the junior club I played for ensured that each and everyone in the program, tall or small, would be exposed to the entire game. This philosophy has stuck with me over the years and will continue to be with me till the end. My passion for this sport runs deep. Because I learned the ENTIRE game, the skill and knowledge I acquired over the years is at an elite level.

The development of our players is essential to their success as well as the success of the program. We focus on making our athletes skilled at every position so they can be all around players, not just offensive or defensive players. One-dimensional is out and multi-dimensional is in. The multi-dimensional thought process has never left my side.

How many times have you heard the story about the girl who played middle blocker from age 12 or 17 and then found if she wanted to play volleyball in college, she would have to play outside hitter? Unfortunately, she never received coaching in the areas of passing or defense prior to moving positions, because they took her out of the back row. These two skills alone are a must for an outside hitter. If you know anything about volleyball, passing is without a doubt the hardest skill to master. This would put any player at a huge disadvantage when it comes to recruiting. This is just one example of how being an all around skilled player will help in the big picture.

Player development is not something that just happens over night. It’s a process taking many years, which once mastered, gives the individual a great feeling of accomplishment. At the Adam Johnson Volleyball Club we take this very seriously and believe in the “down the road” thought process when it comes to building our program and athletes. Many people feel they need everything now; they want immediate gratification, the prize without the work. We don’t subscribe to this kind of thought process.

Our program is unique, in that our player development is extremely important to us. We give our athletes the opportunity to receive equal playtime for the first part of the season, then later finalize a solid core and make the push to the end of the season. And ya’ll know, it’s all about “playtime”. This gives the coaches time to see these athletes play under difficult situations and how they interact and compete on the court with their teammates.

Being in the volleyball world for as long as I have has given me the great privilege to not only be coached by the very best coaches, but also play with and against the worlds best. My work is far from over. I’m always willing to learn more about the game. I stay in touch with a great number of college coaches from all levels as well as professional players to make sure I’m producing the right type of athletes.

The Adam Johnson Volleyball Club’s first season in Austin put us on the map in a big way. Our “Top Ten” showing at the Lone Star Classic opened the eyes of many top 25 Division I college coaches (Penn St., Nebraska, USC, UW & UT, just to name a few). When it comes to colleges recruiting players from our program, the fact that a great number of coaches know who I am personally and professionally is a huge advantage. They know they can trust my knowledge and judgment because of level of play I achieved and my upstanding reputation in volleyball worldwide.

Our coaching staff is compiled of coaches who have achieved Professional Indoor, USA National Team (Men & Women’s), Division I and II College (Men’s & Women’s), Club and Professional Beach volleyball status (levels). Having superior knowledge, experience, skills and techniques from all of our coaches, give our program a step up on the competition. We are extremely fortunate to have all the above and to be able to work together under “One System”. Using one system from year to year makes it easier for your daughters when they move form one coach to another. Each year they will not have to learn an entirely new system; this happens much too often in other clubs. Having a uniformed program from start to finish has proven to be very successful in the long run.

I feel very fortunate to be able give back to the sport that gave so much to me. I don’t look at this as a job because I love what I’m doing. I truly care about all the kids in our program and others that are not. It gives me great pride and pleasure to see them all succeed on and off the court. As a director and mentor, it is my duty to get to know each athlete in the program and help them along with all the resources I have to draw from.
